Where Can I Buy Washer Parts for Maytag?

If we’re to believe the pitiful ramblings of the ever so lonely Maytag repairman, it should never be necessary to worry about Maytag washer parts.  While it’s unwise to believe the exaggerated claims of corporate advertisers, at the time, the customary grain of salt in this case was fairly miniscule.  For the most part, Maytag washer repairs were infrequently necessary.  Maytag used to be extremely reliable compared to other brands.

While I was in the hospital after my son’s birth, he seemed so easily satisfied, so perfectly content to just lay there and be adorable.  I’ve never cared much for contemporary horror films.  I want to see the gun, hear the thud, we all know what happened.  Is there really a need to be so graphic?  All those squishy, cracky, gooey, slobbery special effects really have no place, do they?  Apparently, babies don’t understand this concept, either.  I don’t know what happened to that adorable little tot.  We came in the front door, and suddenly there were projectiles coming from every orifice.  Not oozing, not flowing, but literally launching.  At one point, I ended up on the front porch with a blanket, a glass of wine, and earplugs, just sitting there wearing what must have been my thousandth outfit of the day, for more than an hour in 20° weather.  Severe trauma has a way of changing your perspective; you become more introspective, and appreciative of the little things.  I’ve never been more grateful for the simplicity of a working washing machine.  Commercials may exaggerate, but I’m not embellishing when I say that Maytag literally saved my life, and my sanity; until the kids took it from me permanently.

During that time, I had a habit of overloading the washer, partly because there was so much, and I just wanted it done, and partly because there wasn’t ten seconds in the day to take a proper shower, much less finish household chores.  In all the time that “automatic washers” have been available, it’s shocking to me that no one has managed to fix the issue with unbalanced loads in top loading machines.  I became a pro at Maytag washer troubleshooting.  It’s an amazing accomplishment considering it was pre-internet by more than a decade.  Anymore, internet convenience enables new parents to spend little time searching for an entire downloadable Maytag washer manual.  Likewise, the availability of schematics, and the ability to search for authorized dealers nationwide, rather than locally as before, gives consumers the ease of locating Maytag clothes washer parts, and self-installing them.  For someone my age, who remembers our first color television, it’s nothing short of astounding to be able to find instructional videos, forums, and entire websites completely dedicated to Maytag.

The availability of information is overwhelming; and the number of authorized dealerships, and Maytag qualified repairmen, sorry, repairpersons, is staggering.  In a way, it’s kind of a shame that we have access to so much material.  I miss the days when we romanticized a big, strong repairman swooping in to safe the helpless, yet endearing, housewife.  Obviously, June Cleaver would never have given in to such tawdry nonsense, and we wouldn’t want to tarnish her image by perpetuating such inequality; or subject our children to the confusion of wondering why all the married couples on TV sleep in twin beds.  Nevertheless, how are we supposed to make jokes about housewives having affairs with the milkman, or Maytag guy when they’re a dying breed?  Even the post office refuses to take the mail to the door anymore.

Even more saddening is that the lack of need for Maytag parts has gone the way of so many other great, reputable companies.  Maytag Neptune washer parts are in high demand due to what appears to be a decline in quality after Whirlpool acquired Maytag.  Complaints that newer models have issues with seals; leaking; mold; the powerful odor of stagnate water; and unbalanced cylinders creating the cartoonish effect of the washer “walking” across the floor, are rampant on discussion boards, and consumer protection sites.  Contrary to traditional industry practices, consumers complain that many Maytag washer parts for newer models are out of production.  Additional complaints hold that major failures in the machines are not covered by warranty, leaving owners to pay up to a thousand dollars for repairs, or replacement.  There’s at least one class action lawsuit involving the Neptune model.  It appears that this suit may drag on for several years because many people assert that they were not properly notified of their right to participate.  Apparently, decline in the overall production has created an increased demand for Maytag commercial washer parts since the acquisition, as well.

Although the ease, and convenience of the internet often provides the best solution, and available price, there are times when repairs need to be performed immediately.  Pre-internet, people had no difficulty stopping their work to run to the Sears parts department.  After a quick discussion in-person with an expert, they’d return, part in hand, and finish the job lickety-split {yes, that’s a real expression}.  In many ways, it was a lot less fussy than using the internet.  Unfortunately, it may never be so simple again.  Many businesses have become accustomed to people fulfilling their parts needs through the internet, and no longer carry the large inventory they used to because it’s too expensive to store unsold items.  While Sears used to be a staple in the lives of nearly every American, most locations no longer have a parts department.  Sadly, running to the parts store for Maytag washer parts is as much a thing of the past as the pitiful, lonely repairman’s tiptop machines.
